"Participation Ribbon"
by Mr. Le Moine

The Leafs "earned" a point from a triumphant shootout loss!
That's like ordering pasta with a veggie-option bolognese sauce.

MATH:
We began an in-class project today: students were asked to make a hypothesis about human behaviour, achievement, attitudes (it's pretty open-ended), and prove their theory by demonstrating a correlation (positive or negative) between two sets of data.

Basically, they should be able to say the following sentence to you: "I am trying to determine whether there exists a correlation between x and y."

They have begun to create two surveys with which they will collect their data, and tomorrow they will compile the results and produce a comparative scatterplot to represent their findings.  Tonight, they will be responding to numerous surveys through google forms, so please set aside some time for your child on the computer (I can hear them cheering from here).

ENGLISH:
The formative book talks are done and the rubric has been sent home.  Take a couple of minutes to look it over with your child to see how they can improve for the summative book talk.  This will take place next Friday, February 6th.  Your child will select a different book that he or she has read since September.  Like before, it must be a work of fiction - and yes, Harry Potter is fiction. The four stylistic devices/literary terms to choose from will be: resolution, characterization, mood, or point of view.

MATH:
Tuesday's Math test (5.4-5.6) is coming home today.  Take a look at it with your child if you get a chance tonight.
